This one-of-a-kind necklace features a big chunky Septarian Nodule fossil stone. The stone has a dark chocolate brown and black background with a natural creamy white matrix pattern. It hangs from an oxidized sterling silver wire bail and comes on an 18" black rubber cord necklace with sterling silver lobster claw closure. It has an earthy, natural style that makes a bold statement. The style is unisex, so it can be worn by either a man or woman.
Septarian fossils were formed during the Cretaceous period - 50 to 70 million years ago. Decomposing sea life killed by volcanic eruptions had a chemical attraction to the sediment around them which formed mud balls. As the ocean receded, the balls were left to dry, crack and shrink which created the spectacular patterns inside.
MEASUREMENTS: Pendant measures approximately 2-5/8" in length (from top of sterling silver wire bail to bottom of stone) and 1-5/8" at widest point.
